i gotta post this while this page is still hot over the 5-10-15yrs issue nyahaha. im selling Kamada cd’s! 40bucks lang. their music is hard as shit and straight up your arse. these guys are former members of Cakewalk and Foul. listen to live versions of their songs sa myspace page nila
last night i watched switchfoot play live at cuneta astrodome with my friends omar, lei and mylene. we had to wait in line for like 2 hours but it was worth it. salamin opened for them and did 3 songs, or was it 4 songs… including the one they did with the vox’s brother (gab valenciano) playing the djembe. then it was switchfoot time. i gotta hit the road so i’ll just continue the story tomorrow, including the part where they ate balot onstage and their rhythm axeman was freaking out LOL.
she played for apc and zwan. also released two solo albums. i think… paz lenchantin IS the hottest bass player out there. hindi lang sya puro bass, btw. listen to some of her music in her myspace corner. dali!
Kamada. composed of former Cakewalk and Foul members, they are one of the upcoming heavy acts that you should look out for. my crazyass splambert friend, bongzilla, plays turntables/media for the band. they will be releasing a cd soon and you can get one thru this gorilla. for now though, just listen to their tracks tinik, gunaw & digma on their myspace page.
Brain Damage Control. a band i used to play percussions for back in my college days. listen to 3 tracks from the demo cd. tracks bound, shrine of the silver monkey and flame (my personal fave) are up on myspace. if you happen to like any of the songs, hit me up and i’ll send the mp3 versions to ya.
if you like listening to mix master mike, dj qbert and other turntablists, you should definitely check out kid koala’s work. an asian/canadian dude. it is said that he was classically trained in music and he started scratching at a very young age. he is on another realm of turntable art. he incorporates a lotta jazz, blues and other old samples in most of his music. and i think this sets him apart from the rest.
here are some online clips of his work. basin street blues (music video), drunk trumpet (live), and moon river (live). i’ll try to upload all of his studio albums soon.
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut ‘em down
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut ‘em down
Well my goodness gracious let me tell you the news
My head’s been wet with the midnight dew
I’ve been down on bended knee talkin’ to the man from Galilee
He spoke to me in the voice so sweet
I thought I heard the shuffle of the angel’s feet
He called my name and my heart stood still
When he said, “John go do My will!”
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut ‘em down
[God’s Gonna Cut You Down lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut ‘em down
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin’ in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What’s done in the dark will be brought to the light
You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Sooner or later God’ll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut you down
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut you down
Tell ‘em that God’s gonna cut you down
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
(October 13, 1948 - August 16, 1997)
yea i know, i am not a sufi. but i dont think it means i cant listen to their music, right? i mean, we aint black either but we listen to rap music. sitti doesnt have a trace of cariocan blood in her yet when she sings in portuguese (which she even admitted that she doesnt understand some of the lines of the songs) people love it, doesnt matter if they know what the lyrics mean or not. i listen to Iam and hell i dont know what they’re blabbing about. (im sure bianca can get what theyre sayin though ) hehe
what im trying to say is, i think the language of the lyrics doesnt really matter at all because music itself is a language. most people say that its the background melody of our life, thats why we can always relate our lives to certain lyrics or the whole song. yea maybe. but maybe we can slap it up and turn it around. WE are the soundtrack of music. We give life to what we hear.
going back to nusrat, i first heard his voice in the OST of dead man walking, thats more than a decade ago. it was a song he shared with pearl jam’s eddie vedder, titled Long Road. there’s a live performance of this song in youtube but its not nusrat singing with eddie vedder anymore. he was already 6 feet under when they did the show. click here to watch it. another collab he did was with peter gabriel, the song was Signal To Noise, hell of a song. dont forget to check out his Qawwali tunes of course.
i think i first heard this song some 6 years ago from the movie crazy/beautiful. i know what youre thinking… “what the? this is a cheezy-ass song and thats a cheezy-ass movie!” yea, i’d have to agree haha. but you know, sometimes you gotta put some White Ladder songs on your Arise playlist
This years love had better last
Heaven knows its high time
And Ive been waiting on my own too long
But when you hold me like you do
It feels so right
I start to forget
How my heart gets torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Feeling like you cant go on
Turning circles when time again
It cuts like a knife oh yeah
If you love me got to know for sure
Cos it takes something more this time
Than sweet sweet lies
Before I open up my arms and fall
Losing all control
Every dream inside my soul
And when you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing aint this life so sweet
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
So whose to worry
If our hearts get torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Dont you know this life goes on
And wont you kiss me
On that midnight street
Sweep me off my feet
Singing aint this life so sweet
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
This years love had better last
i think these are the two best covers of nine inch nail’s hurt song from their 1994 studio album, The Downward Spiral.
this is Johnny Cash’s rendition, released around 2002. Cash died in 2003. Trent Reznor liked the cover so much he considers it “a song that is not his anymore”.
and here’s a cover by sevendust back in their acoustic gig in 2004. Lajon Witherspoon didnt sing the lines though, but still, it wasnt bad.

i am addicted to boards of canada. i like to listen to their songs while working, at home or while walking aimlessly anywhere. it gives me a sense of flight, a sense of psychological peace. guess its music therapy hehe. truly a couple of scottish geniuses.
